Welcome to the Region of Waterloo's Application to Change Your Lawn Watering Day

Please complete this application to request a new watering day, as per the Region of Waterloo's Water Conservation By-Law (07-069). This permit will allow you to change your lawn watering day to another day of the week for May 31 to September 30 of this current year. 

A $10.00 non-refundable administrative fee applies for each permit. 

Please note that although applications are not accepted until May 1 of the year you are applying, there is no waiting list for a permit.

Requested Change in Watering Day

You can water your lawn one day a week, as per the Region of Waterloo's Water Conservation By-Law (07-069). 

Lawn watering must take place on your assigned day from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. 

Do you know what day is your assigned lawn watering day? Your lawn watering day of the week can be determined as follows:

Addresses ending with a:

  • 0 or 1 water lawns on Mondays
  • 2 or 3 water lawns on Tuesdays
  • 4 or 5 water lawns on Wednesdays
  • 6 or 7 water lawns on Thursdays
  • 8 or 9 water lawns on Fridays

Application Conditions

Please read the conditions below and sign the form as a record of your understanding:

  • There is a $10 non-refundable administrative fee to apply for a watering day change.
  • Permits will be issued after payment is received and the Water Efficiency Department staff have approved the application.
  • Permit is valid from May 31-September 30 of the current year. 
  • Those found watering on their former watering day will be fined without a warning. 
  • Watering is allowed only from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. 
  • Each property may only apply for a watering day change once per year.
  • Permit stickers must be displayed prominently in the front door or window, clearly visible from the sidewalk. Failure to properly display the permit may result in a fine.
  • Patrol officers will be inspecting your address to ensure the sticker is properly displayed. 
  • Permits will be void if the Region is forced to implement a Stage 3 watering ban.

Personal information on this form is collected under the authority of By-law 07-069 as passed pursant to Sections 8(3) and 11 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O., 2001, c. 25. The information will be used strictly for administration of this program including determining whether a change of watering day will be permitted.
